Bognor Regis beat in-form Harrow Borough 2-1 at Earlsmead thanks to goals by Jason Prior and Jacob Walcott.
It was Boro’s first home league defeat of the year, but one they should never have suffered.
Man of the match was the visitors’ ‘keeper Anthony Ender who continued to frustrate the hosts, producing heroic saves throughout.
Only Boro boss David Howell must feel his side were also guilty of not converting possession and chances into much needed goals.
Boro started the first 10 minutes the better, with both Rocky Baptiste and Dewanye Clarke looking a threat up front.
The first chance fell to Clarke after a courageous block by Ryan Watts on James Crane, which the frontman did well to control before shooting tamely at Ender.
Then Bognor hit back. Matthew Wood was the first to react to a fisted clearance from Andray Baptiste, but only managed to drill his effort just wide of the post.
With Boro having the lion’s share of possession, the away side broke the deadlock.
Dan Beck received possession down Boro’s right-hand side and whipped in an inswinging cross for Jason Prior to jump ahead of the outrushing Baptiste and nod into an empty net.
The goal clearly startled the home team as Bognor were finally able to grab a foothold in the game.
The industrious Richard Hudson raced past Baptiste before setting up Lewis Ide who had plenty of time and space, but whose low shot whistled past the post.
Boro should have equalised with their best chance of the first half. A delightful headed flick-on by Clarke sent Baptiste through on goal, only his low strike produced a fine save from Ender.
The visitors should have doubled the lead when Hudson crossed for Wood whose goal-bound effort was heroically blocked by the attentive Ronayne Marsh-Brown.
HT: Harrow Borough FC 0-1 Bognor Regis Town The home side started the second half just like the first. Lewis Cook’s perfectly weighted pass sent Baptiste clean through, but Ender was on hand yet again to frustrate the hosts.
Boro were pressing for the equaliser and almost found it when a speculative strike from Watts almost caught out Ender, whose finger-tip save sent the ball crashing against the crossbar.
Then substitute Kenta Nakashima picked out Baptiste who this time fired over.
With Boro failing to take their chances and Bognor rarely threatening offensively, it was no surprise when the away side doubled their tally. An innocuous floated pass by Ide seemed to miss its intended target, only Jacob Walcott appeared out of nowhere to race clean through on goal.
The Boro defence glanced over at the linesman yet the flag stayed down and Walcott stayed composed, coolly slotting past the ‘keeper.
Moments later and Boro pulled one back. Substitute Kurt Morlese had barely been on the field for more than a minute, when he dispatched a Kwasi Frempong cross past Ender into the top corner with his first touch. Clarke should have leveled heading into injury time. Baptiste fed his strike partner Clarke down the right, who nonchalantly skipped past Beck into the box before bringing the best out of Ender for the last time.
Whilst the first half saw Bognor gradually show they are a decent footballing side, a dogged performance was needed in the second. Unfortunately for Boro, both halves saw plenty of chances go astray.
